Abstract
The study focuses on the economic situation in the Netherlands, how much confidence people have in the economy, and the respondent’s own financial situation.
Three different experiments are embedded in the study, investigating the effects of two-step questions as opposed to single questions with a larger number of answer options, the effects of adding a don’t know-option and the effects of using a probe in case of a ‘don’t know’ response. The three experiments were combined in such a way that they resulted in six experimental conditions, to which the respondents were randomly assigned.
